Kanye singing 'Hey Mama' with his Mama

For a lot of us, the relationship we share with our mother is beyond words. They dedicated their lives to making sure we we're safe and grew into respectable human beings. In this video, Kanye West and his late mother, Donda West, sing the song that he made in tribute to her undying devotion to her son's life. There's no way of topping Kanye's touching performance at the 2008 Grammys, but this video is another clear example of how much his mother meant to him. Ye might have his moments that make us scratch our heads in confusion, but if there's one thing the hip hop star can teach us all, it's too show love to the ones who always believed in you.

Larro Wilson Interview

Awhile back, I got the chance to meet up with Lawless Inc. CEO Larro Wilson. We talked about his views on meeting celebrities, doing business as an independent label, and what he and co-founder John Monopoly have planned for their flagship artist, King Louie.

Odd Couple- Separated at Birth

This is the first mixtape (Hosted by Bombay Knox) from my good friends and up-and-coming hip hop producers, Odd Couple. With features from hip hop veterans (Freeway and Mikkey Halsted), hot up-and-comers (Smoke DZA, Emilio Rojas, Skyzoo) and talented acts on the rise (Chance the Rapper, Donny Goines, Torae), this mixtape meshes the old with the new seamlessly. The production is where the real show is, though, with the Chicago production duo showing off their hip hop versatility. If you’re a big fan of drums and creative sampling, these guys are worth checking out. Download the mixtape here. Next up for these rising producers is their debut album, which is set to drop this fall.

In These Parts, King Louie Reigns Supreme

Like any metropolitan area, Chicago streets are tagged with stickers advertising bands, websites, and artists. It's a cheap, easy way to generate some street buzz for aspiring creatives. Those who pay attention, though, will tell you that King Louie is the best bet to make it big.

Although his stickers have come under scrutiny by some Chicago neighborhoods, the South Side native has been gaining respect from all walks of life in the city. It's been astounding seeing the rapid growth of his fan base (Keep an eye on his Twitter numbers for a week and you'll see what I'm saying).

I got the pleasure of meeting Louie a few weeks back and came away with respect for him as not just an artist, but as a person. He understands that it's a business, but he's all about doing well for his people.

Interview with Hassani Kwess

This is a short interview I did with Maryland-native Hassani Kwess, who spent part of the summer making tracks with the likes of Chuck Inglish and Odd Couple. Here's the exclusive video:
